Our Marshall University Southern Coalfields Alumni & Big Green Club completed its Community Cares Week project at Shady Spring Senior Center in Beaver, West Virginia. "In January 2024, armed with a vision and a whole lot of prayers, the Shady Spring Center Center came to fruition," said Amanda Ashley, the chapter's first vice president. "The building owner had a vision for a location where seniors could fellowship. With the help of a few trusted friends, the center opened its doors. Funded solely on donations, the center is open two days a week and provides a light meal, line dancing, Bible study, bingo, billiards and more to approximately 70 seniors each day." Community Cares Week starts tomorrow! 💚💪 Marshall University's Community Cares Week is an annual volunteer initiative that brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to enhance the campus and surrounding areas. Launched in 2022 by President Brad D. Smith, the event has grown significantly, with more than 1,000 participants contributing more than 3,400 service hours in 2024 .
