Health Care Improvement Foundation
The Health Care Improvement Foundation (HCIF) is an independent, nonprofit organization based in the United States. Established in 2003, it focuses on driving high-value health care through collaboration and targeted quality improvement initiatives.
Mission and Vision
HCIF is dedicated to the vision of creating healthier communities through equitable, accessible, and quality health care. Its mission involves driving superior health care through collaboration and shared learning. The organization promotes cross-sector relationships to enhance the ability of its partners to achieve optimal clinical and public health outcomes.
Approach
As a neutral convener, HCIF facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and best practices among its extensive network of partners. This includes institutional and community partners from diverse backgrounds such as hospitals, health systems, community-based organizations, payers, and public health departments. By bridging the gap between various organizations, HCIF helps them unite around common goals and implement solutions that would be difficult to achieve individually.
HCIF brings expertise in program design, coaching, facilitation, measurement, and evaluation to create robust solutions to complex health care challenges. It identifies clinical and community health needs and develops strategies to address them.
Strategic Priorities
HCIF's strategic priorities are centered around three main commitments:
-
Health Equity: HCIF is committed to working towards reducing health disparities and promoting optimal health and well-being in all communities. This involves empowering communities and working collaboratively to improve health care institutions and community health.
-
Anti-Racism: The organization recognizes the impact of structural racism on health outcomes and advocates for policies and practices that eliminate racism, bigotry, and bias in healthcare.
-
Collaborative Solutions: By fostering collaboration, HCIF helps organizations overcome barriers and achieve better health outcomes more rapidly than they could alone.
Work and Impact
Over the past two decades, HCIF has worked on numerous projects to improve the quality of care, health equity, patient safety, and population health issues. These initiatives include tackling challenges like COVID-19, maternal child health, readmissions, cancer, workplace violence, food security, trauma-informed practices, and health literacy.
By facilitating partnerships among various stakeholders, HCIF has been instrumental in addressing complex health care challenges. Its collaborative approach serves as a model for how multi-stakeholder collaborations can lead to significant advancements in quality care.
Financial Performance
As of recent years, HCIF has reported significant revenue from grants, contributions, and program services. The organization's total revenues include substantial amounts from these sources, reflecting its continued growth and engagement in the healthcare improvement sector.
