Last week, CCAHA Senior Paper Conservator Heather Hendry traveled to Portugal to present at the 2025 International Iron Gall Ink Meeting. The event was held at the NOVA School of Science and Technology, just outside Lisbon, where Heather presented the talk "Considering Color Change in Iron Gall Ink Drawings: a case study in treatment of a disassembled Stradanus sketchbook." While she was there, Heather caught up with CCAHA alums Soyeon Choi and Anita Dey (now at the Yale Center for British Art); Sophie French (Yale Center for British Art); Marie-France Lemay (Yale Libraries); and Sarah Dove (private practice). Heather also shared some workshop highlights, including sessions on the identification of iron gall ink using a bathophenanthroline test and X-ray fluorescence, and RAMAN spectroscopy. (fb)
