Last week, the NAO team visited Kindness Farm, a nonprofit farm in Southeast Portland run by first-generation immigrants, refugees, and queer individuals 👨🌾 👩🌾 . Two years ago, we had the opportunity to volunteer at the farm in early winter, where we assisted in harvesting the last crops of the season and removing weeds from the soil. This year, with sunny weather, we were excited to return and plant vegetable seeds in nursery pots and directly in the ground, as well as flowers all throughout the farm 🪴 🥕. At NAO, we understand the significance of self-care and well-being, and spending time outdoors is one of the many ways we embody this philosophy. We urge you to discover your own means of doing the same, not only because it is Mental Health Awareness Month but for everyday health ❤️. A huge thank you to Kindness Farm for hosting us at your farm! If you’re looking to volunteer in the Portland area, enjoy being outdoors, and don’t mind getting a bit dirty, definitely check them out! More information about Kindness Farm can be found on their website at www.thekindnessfarm.org. (fb)

Where Are We Now? Federal Actions and Impacts in Oregon Join us for a one-hour webinar hosted by NAO on the federal Executive Orders, Actions, and the new Congressional budget package known as the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.” We will explore the impacts already felt and those anticipated for Oregon’s nonprofits and communities. We are experiencing unprecedented times, and nonprofits in Oregon—whether they receive federal funding or not—have been affected by these changes and will continue to be. With significant cuts to essential human, education, and social services, combined with an economic downturn, charitable donations alone cannot compensate for the reductions or fill the gaps created. In this session, we will take a clear-eyed examination of the current situation and how Oregon’s nonprofits can strategize and adapt to this new reality. Jim White, Executive Director, and Phillip Kennedy-Wong, Director of Public Policy at NAO, will share insights on what we currently know, how your nonprofit might be affected, and the responses from the public and philanthropic sectors to these challenges. This session is free, but registration is required. Note that this session will not be recorded, so please ensure you are able to attend live during the scheduled time.
