Overview
Día de la Mujer Latina Inc. is a US-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors and reducing health disparities within underserved Latino communities. Founded by Venus Ginés, a Latina breast cancer survivor, the organization has been active since 1997 and operates across 39 states in the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Mission
The mission of Día de la Mujer Latina is to deliver culturally and linguistically proficient health education, facilitate early detection screening, and provide preventative care interventions. The organization focuses on enhancing wellness through resource information, training Promotores (Community Health Workers), and offering patient navigation services for follow-up care.

Health Education and Screening: Día de la Mujer Latina emphasizes early detection and screening, particularly for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, breast and cervical cancer, STDs (including HPV and HIV), autism, and heart disease. It also promotes nutrition, diet, and exercise (including Zumba) as part of its comprehensive health approach.

Training Programs: The organization is recognized for its bilingual training modules tailored for Promotores/Community Health Workers. This training covers eight core competencies: Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Coordination of Services, Community Capacity Building, Advocacy, Teaching, Organization, and Knowledge-based skills. In 2009, it became the first Latino community-based organization approved by the Texas State Health Sponsored Certification Training Program for Promotores/Community Health Workers and instructors.

Community Engagement: Día de la Mujer Latina expands its reach through community engagement initiatives, including the MOTIVATE, INFORM, NAVIGATE, and EDUCATE (MOTIVAR, INFORMAR, NAVEGAR, EDUCAR) framework. It also maintains a telehealth community navigation contact center to support underserved communities through virtual support.
