Check out these lil Great Horned owlets to get you through the middle of the week. 🦉Great Horned owlets retain a fuzzy appearance for a while after they leave the nest, making them look different from adult owls. 🦉 They grow very quickly and are ready to move around the nest area after about 6 weeks. They don't fully develop their flying skills until around 10-12 weeks. 🦉 Great Horned owlets have large appetites. Both parents contribute to feeding the owlets, bringing them an average of 300 grams of food per day or about 10.5 ounces. 🦉Their large appetites will help them eventually grow into the largest of the tufted owls in North America, but during their fledgling stage they are vulnerable as they are still learning to hunt and fly.
