We have an update to share on Draco. The other day, we received a desperate plea from a rescuer in Mississippi about a dog in terrible condition. He was found alone on the shoulder of a highway, emaciated, dehydrated, and covered in deep, raw wounds. Fleas, ticks, and mange had ravaged his skin, and his bones were visible beneath his fur. We don’t know if he was dumped or lost long ago, but in this part of Mississippi, it’s heartbreakingly common for dogs to be mistreated. Today, Draco is safe in our care and under the watchful eye of a vet team. He’s being treated for severe mange, a heavy parasite load, and painful open sores that, with care, are already starting to show subtle signs of healing. Bloodwork confirmed he is positive for Ehrlichia and heartworm, and he has already begun treatment. The nurses say Draco is very shy but deeply loving. His tail is still, his eyes are heavy, and you can sense that his spirit has been broken a million times over. This is the beginning of Draco’s long road to recovery, not only of his body but also of his mind. We will do everything we can to fix the wrongs that have been done to him. We love you, Draco.
