Smithfield Fire Department to Participate in Smoke Alarm Saturday on June 7th The Smithfield Fire Department will join fire departments across North Carolina on Saturday, June 7th for Smoke Alarm Saturday, a one-day, statewide initiative dedicated to improving home fire safety and saving lives through working smoke alarms. As part of this event, Smithfield firefighters and volunteers will go door-to-door in targeted neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms, test existing alarms, and provide critical fire safety education. This year, the department will be canvassing the following areas of Smithfield: • Cherry St. / Dail St. area • Evergreen / Barbour Rd. area • Bridge St. / Caswell St. / Hancock St. area Smithfield Fire Chief Jeremey Daughtry stated, “Working smoke alarms give families precious seconds to escape during a fire and they truly save lives. Smoke Alarm Saturday gives us a valuable opportunity to reach our residents directly and make our community safer.” In addition to the canvassing efforts, anyone who would like the Smithfield Fire Department to install a free smoke alarm on June 7th is encouraged to contact the department ahead of time by calling 919-934-2468. Held annually on the first Saturday in June, Smoke Alarm Saturday is a coordinated effort among fire departments across North Carolina to raise awareness about fire prevention, reduce home fire deaths, and ensure that every household is protected by working smoke alarms.
