Description

The P.E.O. Sisterhood North Dakota State Chapter is a local branch of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a nonprofit philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting and advancing women's educational opportunities. The P.E.O. Sisterhood was originally founded on January 21, 1869, by seven young women at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, with the aim to create a strong bond of friendship among women and to promote their advancement through education and philanthropy.

The North Dakota State Chapter was established in 1906 with the organization of its first two chapters, Chapter A in Valley City and Chapter B in Dickinson, facilitated by Winona Reeves, Organizer of the Supreme Chapter. The first state convention took place in 1915. Currently, the North Dakota State Chapter comprises approximately 50 chapters and nearly 1,700 members. The chapter works to support the broader mission of P.E.O. through activities including scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College, a women’s college owned and operated by the P.E.O. Sisterhood[4].

The P.E.O. Sisterhood as a whole is a large organization with about 200,000 members in over 5,500 chapters across the United States and Canada. It is dedicated to celebrating and supporting women, motivating them to achieve their highest aspirations, and facilitating educational opportunities for women at various levels[2][4]. Membership in the P.E.O. Sisterhood requires a personal commitment to these ideals and the educational purposes of the organization.

The North Dakota State Chapter, like other state chapters, serves as a critical link in providing local support and resources to members while contributing to the international philanthropic projects championed by P.E.O. International. The chapter fosters a close-knit community of women who share common goals of friendship, motivation, and educational philanthropy[1][4].
