Puget Soundworks

Overview

Puget Soundworks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Puget Sound region, Washington. It operates as an all-gender, LGBTQIA+ centered community chorus, aiming to promote inclusivity and social justice through music[1][5].

Mission

The mission of Puget Soundworks is to create a kinder and more inclusive world by fostering a singing community that celebrates diversity and promotes social justice. The organization seeks to provide a platform where individuals from all gender identities feel welcome, and where music is used as a tool to uplift marginalized voices[1][2].

History

Founded in 2018 by Vanessa Grose, Puget Soundworks began with the vision of creating a musical space that is inclusive and supportive of LGBTQIA+ individuals. The organization quickly grew, reaching over 100 singers in its first year. During its early years, it presented successful concerts and performances, including sold-out shows and collaborations with other artistic groups[2].

Puget Soundworks faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by transitioning its operations to virtual platforms. This allowed the chorus to continue performing, albeit remotely, and maintain engagement with its community. By early 2022, the organization had begun transitioning back to in-person performances under the direction of its new Artistic Director, Miriam Anderson[2].

Leadership

As of recent updates, Kate Huisentruit serves as the Executive Director of Puget Soundworks, bringing her experience as a performer and producer to the role[3]. The Board of Directors is headed by President Christina Wilson, who has served in various capacities within the organization[3]. Vanessa Grose, the founder, continues to support the organization as an active member after stepping down as Executive Director[3].

Operations

The organization relies on community support and donations to continue its mission. As a registered nonprofit, Puget Soundworks is eligible for corporate donations through platforms like Benevity and OneCause[4]. Its programming includes a variety of concerts and performances aimed at spreading messages of inclusivity and kindness throughout the Puget Sound region[1][2].
