𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰? 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐭𝐬 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧! Here's a fun fact about Duluth's history that might surprise you. The charming Lakeside neighborhood on the far east end wasn't always part of our city. Here's a brief timeline of Lakeside's independent days: • 1886: The Lakeside Land Company formed, and the area was first known as "New London." • March 30, 1889: It officially incorporated as the Village of Lakeside. • January 1, 1893: The Village of Lakeside officially became part of the City of Duluth. (Fun fact: this annexation was decided two years before it actually happened!) So, for a brief period, Lakeside operated as its very own municipality. And here's another interesting tidbit: part of the annexation agreement stipulated that no bars or liquor stores would be allowed in the neighborhood, contributing to Lakeside being a "dry" area for many years.
