We’re excited to partner with the Big Chill Beach Club to celebrate World Ocean Day with a Beach Cleanup and Dine & Donate event! Join us on Sunday, June 8th, for a cleanup from 10–11am as we help protect our coastline by removing trash from the beach and the surrounding Delaware Seashore State Park area. We’ll provide all the supplies you need—bags, buckets, grabbers, and gloves and cleanup check-in will be located right at Big Chill Beach Club. After the cleanup, stick around and grab a drink or bite to eat. From 11am–3pm, a percentage of all food and beverage sales will be donated to the Center. (fb)

Sometimes building coastal resilience takes some pretty unique tools. The Center’s Restoration Team recently took a trip to Gillespie Precast in Greenwood to check out Wave Attenuation Devices (WADs) designed by Living Shoreline Solutions. These structures are engineered to dampen wave energy before it hits the shoreline, helping to reduce erosion and protect vulnerable coastlines. WADs also provide a habitat for oysters and fish and help trap sediment between the shore and the reef, which results in cleaner waters. We’ve already incorporated WADs into our Pasture Point oyster reef (shown in picture three) and previously supported a similar project at Seagrass Plantation. Next up: Thompson Island, where we’re partnering with @destateparks to install over 380 WADs along the south shore. (fb)
