The Documentary Film Institute and Bertelsmann Foundation invite you to the Bay Area premiere of "Lithium Rising: The Race for Critical Minerals". From the moment our smartphone alarms wake us, lithium batteries power our day—from the mundane to the lifesaving. But where do the essential minerals like lithium, nickel, and cobalt come from, and who controls their supply? Directed by Bertelsmann Foundation’s Samuel George, PhD, "Lithium Rising" takes viewers From the salt flats of South America, to the red earth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; from the nickel smelters in Indonesia, to factories in Northern France; from tribal lands of Northern Nevada to battery recycling plants in rural Georgia, exploring the global race for energy in the 21st century. This special event is a collaboration between the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Documentary Film Institute at SF State, BAVC Media, and Ninth Street Independent Film Center. This film will screen at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center on Thursday, April 3rd at 6pm, followed by a Q&A with the film's director, Samuel George. Admission is FREE, but tickets are required - get yours at Eventbrite today: (fb)

Ninth Street IFC San Franciscos Home for Independent Film Our Building The Ninth Street Independent Film Center at 145 Ninth Street provides a permanent home for independent media in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have transformed nearly 22000 square feet of industrial space into a publicly accessible nonprofit film center. We see this building as a power plant that generates independent media on a local and national levela facility created to promote and preserve publicinterest media within an increasingly homogenous telecommunications landscape.
