DID YOU KNOW? The fountain in the Clinton village park honors the Houghton Seminary, founded in 1861 on 20 acres at the corner of Chestnut Street and Franklin Ave., the former location of the Home Cottage Seminary. The school featured academic and collegiate programs. Graduates of the collegiate program were guaranteed admission without examination to Smith College in Massachusetts. Houghton closed in 1903 and the building was torn down in 1912. (fb)
Bet You Didn't Know.... George Cleveland, born 1952, is the grandson of President Grover Cleveland. Following the recent death of Harrison Ruffin Tyler, 96, the last living grandson of 10th U.S. President John Tyler (1790–1862), former Clinton resident Grover Cleveland is now the earliest born president with a living grandchild.
