Ethio Edir

Ethio Edir is a 501(c)(12) non-profit organization established in January 2008 by Ethiopian volunteers in the State of Washington. It functions as a self-help association, primarily serving the Ethiopian community in the Greater Seattle area.

Purpose

The organization's primary objectives include providing financial assistance for funeral services and transporting the body of deceased members to their final resting place. Additionally, Ethio Edir disseminates information to members about a member's death and coordinates tasks associated with such events. It also offers personal assistance during the mourning process, adhering to Ethiopian cultural traditions.

Structure

Ethio Edir has a governing structure that includes a Board of Directors, which oversees the administration of the organization. The Board consists of nine members who are responsible for managing the operations and making key decisions. An Executive Committee is also established, comprising roles such as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relation Personnel, Chief of Operations and Technology, and an Accountant. These positions ensure the smooth operation of the organization, including the management of finances and coordination of community activities.

Membership

Initially started with a smaller membership base, Ethio Edir has grown significantly over the years. The organization currently boasts over six hundred members and encourages all Ethiopians in the Greater Seattle area to join. Its motto, "Wish for the best, prepare for the worst," reflects the organization's mission to support its members through life's critical moments.
