The Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League was formed in 1962 to raise funds for a hospital in the area, driven by the belief that local medical facilities could have saved the lives of two young children who died due to the distance to healthcare services. Despite initial skepticism, the league successfully raised $3.5 million, leading to the hospital's opening on July 17, 1967.
