Happy ten-year anniversary of the day the Nebraska Legislature successfully repealed capital punishment! Thanks to a cross-partisan coalition led by Sen. Ernie Chambers and the hard work of thousands of Nebraskans over the course of decades, the Legislature voted to successfully override then-Gov. Ricketts' veto of LB268. Gov. Ricketts and his father went on to fund a ballot petition drive to put capital punishment back on the books in November 2016, an effort that was tragically successful—but for those 532 days, Nebraskans found themselves no less safe living in a state without state killing. It took a lot of people many long years of hard work to succeed the first time, and we know it will not be easy to succeed again—but with YOUR help, we can once more free Nebraska from the bloody shackles of this outdated barbarity.
