Cary Medical Center Recognized with EMS Community Partner Award For Immediate Release CARIBOU, ME – May 27, 2025 – Cary Medical Center has been honored with the 2025 EMS Community Partner Award by Maine Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This prestigious award is presented annually to a non-EMS organization that exemplifies excellence, integrity, and outstanding collaboration within the EMS system. Cary was recognized for its ongoing support of EMS organizations and its strong commitment to enhancing emergency medical care across the region. “I just can’t say enough about what I think Cary Medical Center has done for Aroostook EMS,” explained Dr. Bethann Collamore. “I mean our local ambulance services all fill their medications at our pharmacy. They do their laundry through our hospital laundry service. Cary also provides opportunities for EMS employees and students to get free training and hands-on experience.” Dr. Collamore, an emergency room physician, emphasized that Cary Medical Center’s support of local EMS services is essential in ensuring they have access to the training, supplies, and clinical resources needed to operate effectively. “I would definitely say that Cary makes it easier for our services to survive financially,” added Dr. Collamore. “I actually don’t think they would be able to sustain their EMS operations without the support that we give them as a hospital.” “We appreciate the important role Maine EMS plays in our healthcare system,” stated Kris Doody, RN, CEO at Cary Medical Center. “That is why Cary has worked hard to assist local ambulance services and their crews to help keep their operations sustainable. We also partner with them to train for natural disasters, mass casualty events and more to ensure we all are prepared to react appropriately when needed.” Cary Medical Center continues to meet a critical need by providing physicians to serve as medical directors for local EMS operations. In addition, the hospital is actively exploring ways to expand its support for EMS services. This includes efforts to reintroduce EMS students into the hospital setting, offering valuable real-world experience through direct interaction with providers and patients. “Cary Medical Center has allowed an ER physician to hold the position of Regional EMS Medical Director for many years,” stated Dr. Collamore, who is the medical director for Fort Fairfield Fire Rescue, Presque Isle Fire and Ambulance, and Caribou Fire and Ambulance. “Cary has been very good in allowing their physicians that non-clinical time to be service level medical directors. I think Cary’s approach is EMS friendly, trying to get the entire region functioning and covered for EMS services.” Cary Medical Center is a 63-bed acute care hospital well known for its patient-centered services. We are a community of providers committed to excellence in healthcare and to improving the lives of those we serve. We are actively engaged in advancing the health and wellness needs of people in Aroostook County, including the unserved and underserved. Cary Medical Center is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
