To know the story of Brian Taylor's career is to know the story of REMSA Health – after all, he was here when it began. 🚑 Brian started his EMS career in 1983 when he worked as an EMT for AIDS Ambulance – one of two ambulance agencies in the area at the time. Then, after briefly working as an AEMT for Medic 1, he attended Paramedic School at Daniel Freeman in Los Angeles. Upon returning to northern Nevada, he continued working for Medic 1 as a paramedic and field training officer. In 1986, REMSA was formed, and Brian was named the organization's first supervisor. With approximately 20 ambulances serving the community, Brian fulfilled his supervisory role while working on a unit. He held positions of progressive responsibility and became Co-Director of Operations in 1996. Eventually, Brian was promoted to Special Operations Manager, and in 1997, he, along with Kevin Romero, Alan Dobrowolski, and Ron Harmon, launched one of the country's first tactical EMS or TEMS teams. Brian and his teammates supported local law enforcement on dynamic calls using hand-me-down ballistics vests and helmets more suited for motorcycle riding than hostile scenes. Brian stepped away from TEMS in 2007, but the special team is still going strong. Since 2011, Brian has worked as the organization's Emergency Manager. This position allows Brian to share his expertise through groups such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee, the Interhospital Coordinating Committee, and the Traffic Incident Management Steering Committee, as well as by assisting with the creation of the Crisis Standards of Care, which served as the operations structure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Above all, Brian will tell you that he is most proud of his family – all three of his children have worked at REMSA Health in some way. He is also proud of his Christian faith and his sacrifices to the community he has served for more than four decades. Of course, Brian is also deeply appreciative of Vivian, his wife of 39 years. He says, "She has only ever known me as a paramedic. That takes so much support and sacrifice from her. She is my rock." Brian, on behalf of the region, congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your many contributions. 💙 (fb)

Another successful EMS Week in the books. 📚 Thank you to our team and community members for helping us celebrate!🎉 (fb)
