Congratulations to Britta Will, Ph.D., on being named as the permanent director of the Ruth L. and David S. Gottesman Institute for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Will is associate professor of oncology, of medicine and of cell biology, and the Diane and Arthur B. Belfer Scholar in Cancer Research. In her NIH-funded lab, Dr. Will and her team have identified mechanisms that can be targeted by therapies to enhance healthy stem cell function in stem cell transplantation, bone marrow failure, blood cancer, and in aging. She is the first permanent director of the institute since the passing of Paul Frenette, M.D., Ph.D., the institute's founding director, in 2021. (fb)

The healthcare needs of Einstein’s Bronx community and beyond was the focus of the inaugural Community Week hosted by the office of community engagement and outreach in April. The event featured three lectures exploring how physicians could improve patient care. Einstein alum Chinedu Nwabuobi, M.D., M.S., ’12, delivered the 11th annual Dr. Roger Duvivier Lecture, “Whispers of Doubt: Fostering Trust in Maternal Care," while fellow alum Utibe Essien, M.D., M.P.H. ’13, gave the second annual Dr. Ed Burns Reception and Lecture, “Bending the Arc Toward Quality Healthcare for All.” Nisha Parikh, M.D., M.P.H. also delivered an address, “The Cardiovascular Challenge: Disease is Not the Same.” Dr. Nwabuobi is director, cardio-obstetrics program at the Orlando Health Women’s Institute; Dr. Essien is vice-chair, community engagement, department of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Dr. Parikh is system director, Women's Heart Program at the Katz Institute for Women’s Health at Northwell Health.
