In April 1990, six months before his death, Dr. Bowen begins the conference by describing his Odyssey in developing a science of human behavior that would one day replace Freudian Theory.

In a private letter on February 17, 1989 Dr. Bowen wrote, "One cannot pretend a zebra is a mule by painting out the white stripes. " This quote speaks to distortion of perception, and how the desire for things to be different doesn’t make them so.
