Some of you may have already heard, but we lost Marshall Oakley suddenly and shockingly a little over two weeks ago. Marshall had been in the HospHouse orbit for many years, staying with us at the original house on King Street and living the last several years in an efficiency apartment at our Brook Hollow Complex as part of our Permanent Supportive Housing program. Throughout the years Marshall was housed multiple times but eventually would lose his housing because of his BIG HEART! You see, when you are assigned a housing voucher you cannot let anyone stay with you or you risk losing your housing. Marshall never thought that made much sense, especially when there were others living outside in the cold. So, he broke the rules. Ultimately, having him beside us day-by-day was the best option for him....and us. God broke the mold when He made Marshall and we are all better for having had him in our lives. It's never going to be the same at Brook Hollow and we are going to be missing his waving arms, big smiles, and those most random conversations for a long time to come.
