It can be challenging for some to find the right mental health support and to find the right healthcare facility or provider to get that support. That’s why we established a new role at Sentara - the behavioral health navigator. The behavioral health navigator provides therapy, coordinates follow-up appointments or resources, and connects people to essential mental health and substance abuse resources. They are the bridge to care that so many need — and may not know how to access on their own. We are rolling out behavioral health navigators to serve all 12 Sentara hospitals, with on-site and virtual support, and embedding behavioral health navigators at non-Sentara facilities across Virginia to assist Sentara Health Plans members. As one patient puts it, "People in need often don’t seek it out.
