On Monday, we welcomed our first GHEF 2025 cohort with a full-day orientation designed to equip fellows for their time in Uganda. Over the course of the day, they explored how to conduct ethical and effective research in rural settings, discussed the realities of working in global health, and received foundational training in qualitative methods. Sessions also covered psychological first aid and basic Lusoga language—skills that will support both respectful engagement and deeper understanding in the field. As Clinical Week at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital wraps up tomorrow, our fellows are reflecting on what they’ve learned before heading to Mpunde village next week to begin their research projects. ⁠ Kayla shadowed ER staff, observed local surgical practices, and even learned how to make gauze and cotton balls by hand—a powerful lesson in creativity and resilience in resource-limited settings. ⁠ Her takeaway?
