Congress of World Hmong People Inc
The Congress of World Hmong People Inc is a United States-based nonprofit organization focused on addressing issues related to the Hmong people worldwide. Established with the aim of advocating for Hmong rights and cultural preservation, the organization has been particularly involved in monitoring and advocating for the rights of Hmong communities, especially those in conflict zones such as Laos.
Background
The Hmong people, an indigenous group mainly found in Southeast Asia, historically migrated from southern China to countries like Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. Their relationship with the U.S. is significant, particularly during the Vietnam War when they were allied with the U.S. CIA. This alliance led to severe persecution after the war, forcing many Hmong to flee their homelands and resettle in countries like the United States, Australia, and Canada.
Mission and Activities
The Congress of World Hmong People Inc works on several fronts:
-
Human Rights Advocacy: The organization monitors and reports on human rights abuses in regions with significant Hmong populations, particularly in areas of conflict like the Xaysombun Special Zone in Laos. They have highlighted issues such as forced displacement, lack of access to basic needs like food and healthcare, and violence against Hmong communities[1].
-
Cultural Preservation and Support: While not prominently documented, the organization likely supports cultural and linguistic preservation among Hmong diaspora communities by promoting their rights to maintain their traditions and languages.
-
International Engagement: They engage with international bodies such as the United Nations to advocate for Hmong communities facing persecution and displacement. They have also sought increased dialogue and cooperation between governments and international bodies to address these issues effectively[1].
Challenges and Efforts
The organization faces challenges in its efforts to promote Hmong rights and cultural identity. These include working against systemic oppression, managing international relations, and raising awareness about the struggles faced by Hmong communities globally. Despite these challenges, the Congress of World Hmong People Inc continues to play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and dignity of Hmong people worldwide.
Financial Overview
As of recent reports, the organization does not appear to distribute grants, focusing instead on advocacy and support work[4]. Its financial filings are available publicly, reflecting its activities as a registered public charity.

After the war ended in 1975 the Lao PDR government regime allegedly targeted the Hmong because of their past political affiliation with the west. Today the Lao PDR systematically committed mass atrocities war crimes and genocides against the Hmong Indigenous People in central Laos with full support and backup from its ally Vietnam.
