This Mother's Day, we celebrate Anne – not just a dedicated Children's Wisconsin Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse, but a mom whose own journey came full circle when her premature twin boys needed the very care she provides to others. After an emergency cesarean section, Anne found herself on an unexpected path with twins, Nolan and Davis, who spent their first three months in our Milwaukee NICU. There, her colleagues – nurses, providers, our lactation team and many others – supported this family every step of the way. Fast forward to today: The boys just celebrated their 2nd birthday and are doing amazing! They see multiple Children's Wisconsin specialties including pulmonology, cardiology, audiology, ophthalmology, ENT and recently graduated from physical therapy. Nolan and Davis are also part of our Healthy Outcomes Post-ICU Engagement (HOPE) Clinic, which provides follow-up for babies who need specialized care after birth and who are at risk for developmental delays or have ongoing medical problems. Nolan is a happy, adventurous slide-climber, while Davis loves singing, snuggles and expressing his strong opinions. "The beginning days were scary, and I couldn't imagine what the future would look like," Anne said. "It's hard to believe they're 2 years old and thriving. I am so lucky to be their mom!"
