FRIENDS OF THE SHIAWASSEE RIVER
🐟 Lake Sturgeon Release – August 22 Join conservation partners across the region to help release juvenile lake sturgeon into local rivers as part of a long-term effort to restore this ancient, threatened species. 🔹 These young sturgeon hatched naturally in the Black River and were raised safely all summer before being reintroduced into the Saginaw Bay watershed. 📍 Release Locations & Times: • 11 AM – Tittabawassee River, Midland (Chippewa Nature Center) • 12 PM – Shiawassee River, Cole Park, Chesaning (Friends of the Shiawassee River) • 1:30 PM – Flint River, Mott Park, Flint (Flint River Watershed Coalition) • 2 PM – Cass River, Frankenmuth (City of Frankenmuth) Since 2017, nearly 7,000 sturgeon have been reintroduced into the system thanks to many partners and volunteers working together.
