IAVE — the International Association for Volunteer Effort Every year an estimated one billion people volunteer their time and skills in the service of their communities. Since 1970 IAVE has nurtured and grown volunteer leaders across the world promoting the ideas and values of volunteering as the foundation of civil society. Our diverse member network includes volunteers government agencies multinational agencies and institutions academics NGOs businesses and volunteer leadership organizations in over 100 countries. Our Mission How We Get There Advocacy IAVE brings together global voices to promote and increase volunteering around the world.

Two years ago, in December 2023, the UN declared 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY2026). Around the same time, IAVE took a leap, asking: “What if this could be the moment to set a bold new course for the future of volunteering. ” Since then, 10,000+ people from 100 countries have joined the journey, sharing insights through surveys and dialogues that are now shaping a global Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering.
