💡✨ Celebrating Our Guiding Lights ✨💡 Each May, the Iowa Association of School Boards invites Iowans to recognize the dedicated individuals who serve on their local school boards. The 2025 theme — A Guiding Light for Student Success — couldn’t be more fitting. Did you know? Iowa has 325 school districts and 1,845 school board seats — all filled by volunteers who give their time, energy, and leadership to support students across the state. At our May 27 School Board Meeting, the Cody Elementary PTA helped us celebrate these community leaders in true Cody fashion — with Cody Road Coffee, Cody Rose Flowers, Kernel Cody Popcorn 🍿🌸☕, and a heartfelt card signed by every student and staff member. 🇺🇸 5th Grade Flag Essay Contest 🇺🇸 Last night at our School Board Meeting, members of the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post #347 joined us to celebrate our 5th Grade Flag Essay Winners! Each year, all Pleasant Valley 5th graders write essays about what the American flag means to them. One winner is chosen from each elementary school and honored with the opportunity to present a new American flag to their school during their building's Flag Ceremony. A district-wide winner is also selected—and this year, that honor went to Hopewell’s Roshna Sri Suresh Kumar, who shared: "Every time I see the flag I feel bravery running through my body immediately, like I am a superhero."
