It's World Otter Day! Bring home your very own (painted) river otter on Friday! North American River Otters (Lontra canadensis) were once found in every Michigan county, however habitat destruction and the fur trade reduced their population. By the early 1900s, River Otters were gone from the southern half of the lower peninsula. St. Clair County lies at the very southern edge of their current known range. Paddlers on the Black River have reported seeing signs of otter, like tracks and slides in the Black River. Painting with Pints is featuring a river otter this Friday!
