Have you ever witnessed the moment a young person truly connects with nature for the first time? That instant when their eyes widen with wonder as they discover a native plant species found nowhere else on Earth, or when they beam with pride after removing invasive species that threaten our delicate ecosystems? These transformative moments happen all the time when Channel Islands Restoration works with young people, and we need your help to ensure the program continues. Our youth program provides students with hands-on environmental education and restoration experiences in some of California's most precious ecological treasures on the Channel Islands and extraordinary locations on the mainland. For many participants, especially those from underserved communities, this program offers their first meaningful connection to these extraordinary natural environments that exist in their own backyard. What Your Support Makes Possible: -- Field trips, including to the Channel Islands for students who might never otherwise experience these unique ecosystems or even ride on a boat -- Hands-on native plant restoration projects that give young people the satisfaction of making a real environmental impact -- Mentorship from professional biologists and environmental scientists -- Development of leadership skills that students carry with them for life To date, our youth program has: --Engaged 2,542 young people in environmental education and restoration activities on the Channel Islands -- Facilitated 110 island-based field experiences for school groups -- Planted thousands of native plants and removed many tons of invasive plant species Support CIR During Matching May at https://cirweb.org/matching-may The Time to Act is Now As climate change and habitat loss accelerate, the need for environmental education and active restoration has never been more urgent. By supporting our youth program, you're not just preserving the precious habitat today—you're nurturing the environmental leaders who will protect it for generations to come. Also, when you give during the month of May, your contribution will be DOUBLED! Five generous supporters will donate $25,000 to CIR if we are able to match that amount with donations from people like you! Only during May will your donation be matched dollar for dollar, doubling your contribution. Will you join us in this crucial mission? With sincere gratitude for your support, Ken Owen, Executive Director P.S. Don't forget, every donation made in May is matched, making this the perfect time to give. Join us in making a lasting impact! (fb)
