CALIFORNIA SPEECH-LANGUAGE-HEARING

The CSHA Early Intervention Committee achieved a major milestone by collaborating with our lobbyists and the Department of Developmental Services to secure the release of a Guidance Letter on the use of CF/RPEs and SLPAs in California’s Early Start system. This letter is especially significant because, prior to its issuance, many regional centers did not permit CF/RPEs or SLPAs to provide speech therapy services to children in the California Early Start program. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and leadership of Kelly Arellano during her 2023–2024 term as EI Committee Chair and the continued efforts of Katherine McKernan McCracken in 2024–2025, along with the valuable contributions of Marcella McCollum, Bob McKinney, and Benjamin Reece, who each Chaired the Advocacy Committee across the past two years.
