The Playmakers Organization Inc.
The Playmakers Organization Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded with a focus on building leadership and character through sports and academics. Established in 2009, the organization was created in response to the challenging circumstances faced by at-risk youth, particularly in the area of Sacramento, California.
History
The organization was founded by Greg Roeszler, a former college quarterback and punter who coached varsity football at Encina High School. During his coaching tenure, Roeszler discovered that many of his students were facing severe personal and social challenges, including homelessness, poverty, and exposure to crime. This realization led him to create programs that would integrate sports with character-building lessons, aiming to provide young individuals with the tools needed to overcome their difficulties.
Programs
The Playmakers Organization initially began with a summer football camp that combined football skills training with character education. Over time, the organization expanded its offerings to include after-school and summer reading programs for at-risk youth. Additionally, an annual Summer Football Academy was established to support regional high schools.
The organization's mission is centered around providing opportunities for personal growth and development through sports and education, with a focus on leadership development and character formation.
Impact
Since its inception, The Playmakers Organization has positively impacted the lives of over 2,000 students and athletes. The organization aims to expand its reach nationally by partnering with community leaders and agencies to promote its curriculum and programs.
Future Vision
The organization's future goals include expanding its national presence and affecting a broader population of at-risk youth. By leveraging partnerships with local and national entities, The Playmakers seeks to enhance its programs and further reduce challenges such as bullying, while equipping young individuals with the necessary skills to face their challenges effectively.
