Special Needs Solutions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with special needs in Southern Arizona. Established as an independent entity, though its roots extend back nearly three decades, it aims to provide affordable, custom-made therapeutic equipment tailored to the specific physical and therapeutic needs of its clients.

History and Development

The organization's origins trace back to addressing the chronic and unmet needs for adaptive equipment in Arizona's special needs residential programs, which transitioned from institutional to community-based settings. Over time, it evolved from a modest start with limited resources into a fully equipped facility staffed by volunteers skilled in various crafts, including cabinetry, electronics, and sewing.

Mission and Impact

Special Needs Solutions' mission is to empower individuals with special needs by providing them with essential support and therapeutic equipment, thereby facilitating their full participation in life. It collaborates closely with families, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and teachers to design and fabricate custom adaptive equipment often not available commercially.

Services and Achievements

• Custom Equipment: Special Needs Solutions creates custom-made furniture, clothing, devices, and other equipment designed to support physical, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Affordability: Clients only pay for the cost of materials, making these essential resources accessible to families who might otherwise be unable to afford them.
• Annual Impact: The organization serves over 220 individuals annually and adapts nearly 1,000 items. Additionally, it provides equipment to more than 100 therapists and teachers working with children and adults with special needs in community agencies and educational programs.
