Six years ago, Prince came to SFES. Prince was a law enforcement seizure, 9 years old, a stud and untrained. He was sweet but extremely thin and lame. His hooves were a mess and as unbalanced as we'd ever seen. It took 3 or 4 trimmings (thank you Ernie) and he was fine. I began training him as soon as he finished rehab. He's under saddle and has never bucked me. I've ridden him in the round pen and yards but not out on the trail. If you remember, I was badly hurt a couple of years ago and not up for finishing him up. Everybody loves the Prince. And multiple people wanted to adopt him. Two wanted him to go to boarding barns. FAIL. He hates stalls and needs to live like a horse. Others had no idea how to handle him, or any horse, and it wouldn't have been safe for him or them. We waited. Last week, a nice man who used to train Arabians called looking for a friend for his mare who lost her pasture mate. She's about his size, loves walks on the beach and music. My ears perked us as I read. He came to visit to meet Prince and it was clear that Prince was totally comfortable with him. I think Prince may have finally found his person. We do NOT adopt until we are sure. It's hard to say no. But we do everything we can to make sure it's the right fit. I know many of you dearly love Prince and will be so happy for him. Yes, I told him that hem might have his own mare. He asked "do you think she will like me?" Who wouldn't? (note pictures.... 9 years ago before we extended the barn and still had wooden fence. (fb)
