Kick for Nick Foundation Inc
The Kick for Nick Foundation Inc is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering peace, goodwill, and stability around the world by distributing soccer balls to underprivileged children globally. This mission is carried out in honor of PFC Nicholas A. Madaras, a soldier from Wilton, Connecticut, who was killed in action in Iraq on September 3, 2006.
History
PFC Nicholas A. Madaras was an avid soccer player, coach, and referee before his military service. During his leave in the summer of 2006, he shared his enthusiasm for soccer with his family, commenting on the talent of children in Iraq who played the sport using makeshift balls. He expressed a desire to distribute soccer balls to these children. Following his passing, Ken Dartley initiated a program in his memory to fulfill this wish.
Mission and Activities
The organization's mission is to promote peace and goodwill through soccer, following PFC Madaras' dream. It collects soccer balls and distributes them to children in over 50 countries, including Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Bhutan, Guatemala, and Colombia. Beyond soccer balls, the foundation occasionally provides additional support such as uniforms, cleats, shin guards, personal hygiene items, school supplies, and food.
Kick for Nick collaborates with U.S. troops, military contractors, volunteers, schools, and other charitable organizations to reach underprivileged children worldwide. The soccer balls distributed are inscribed with PFC Madaras' name, symbolizing the enduring nature of his vision.
Impact
Since its inception, Kick for Nick has distributed over 50,000 soccer balls, generating smiles and fostering memories of goodwill and friendship across the globe. The organization's efforts extend beyond sports equipment; it has also contributed to building a transitional home for homeless female veterans in Bridgeport, Connecticut, named in honor of PFC Madaras.

The Kick for Nick Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, making all donations tax deductible. It operates under the classification of international, foreign affairs, and national security/international cultural exchange within the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE).
