Heartland Power Cooperative
Overview

Heartland Power Cooperative is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative. It serves approximately 5,200 homes, farms, businesses, and industries across North Central Iowa and South Central Minnesota. The cooperative manages over 1,800 miles of electric power lines, providing essential energy services to its members.

History

The cooperative was formed in 1998 through the merger of two separate cooperatives. This union created a stronger entity committed to delivering quality and affordable energy services to its members.

Mission and Vision

Heartland Power Cooperative's primary mission is to enhance the quality of life and economic well-being of its members and the region through reliable electrical energy provision at the lowest possible cost. The cooperative's vision is to become the preferred provider of energy and services for all consumers.

Operations

The cooperative is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of eight members, each elected by the membership. These directors are directly affected by the policies they set, ensuring decisions are made in the best interest of the cooperative. The cooperative also offers programs like Operation Round Up, which allows members to round up their bills to support local community projects.

Membership Benefits

As a cooperative, members benefit from having a voice in operations through voting rights. They also share in the success of the cooperative through capital credits or dividends, based on their electricity purchases. Members have access to local professionals for personal service, and the cooperative is part of a larger cooperative network offering additional resources.

Service Area

Heartland Power Cooperative serves Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Floyd, Howard, and Mitchell counties in Iowa, as well as Faribault, Freeborn, and Mower counties in Minnesota.
