Project South honors the life of globally renowned poet and critical theorist Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. An anti-imperialist and anti-colonial leader, brillant novelist, and fierce protector of African languages, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o reminds us that "resistance is the best way of keeping alive." Last year, Project South collaborated with Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o and Ndungi Githuku to record a reading of his poem, in which Thion'go spoke up for the autonomy of the Kenyan people. The poem, publicized alongside an open letter, criticized the current Kenyan president William Ruto for his collaboration with Western imperialist forces and NATO. With deep respect and in celebration of his life, take a moment to listen to Thiong'o speaking truth and organizing for liberation, even while in exile.
