AeroX

AeroX is a nonprofit organization designated as a 501(c)(6) business league, focusing on the development and application of advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies. Established in North Carolina, AeroX collaborates with business, government, and community partners to create a national model ecosystem for AAM, particularly in the Piedmont region.

Mission and Goals

AeroX's mission is to facilitate the safe and efficient commercialization of AAM technologies, including unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. By leveraging North Carolina's leadership in UAS innovation, AeroX aims to establish the state as a leader in AAM, positioning it for economic growth and job creation. Studies predict the AAM market could reach $1 trillion annually by 2040, potentially creating over 280,000 jobs.

Projects and Initiatives

AeroX is actively involved in several key initiatives:

• Project ATLAS: Developing the first urban Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system to enable Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations for UAS. This project is crucial for integrating unmanned aircraft into the national airspace, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Workforce Development: AeroX collaborates with educational institutions like Elizabeth City State University and community colleges to develop UAS and aviation-related curricula, providing training for future drone operators and industry professionals.
• Partnerships: AeroX works with major corporations and government agencies, such as UPS Flight Forward, Atrium Wake Forest Baptist, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, and Duke Energy, to develop and implement various UAS applications in logistics, healthcare, public safety, and infrastructure inspections.

Funding and Operations

AeroX is supported by grants and memberships. In 2021, the organization received a $5 million grant from the North Carolina General Assembly to develop AAM infrastructure. Membership fees also contribute to operational funds, allowing AeroX to advance its strategic objectives and support industry innovations.

Leadership

AeroX is led by a Board of Directors composed of business and community leaders experienced in advancing UAS and AAM operations. Key figures include Basil Yap (President) and Michael Baughan (Chair). The organization's leadership plays a vital role in shaping the UAS and AAM landscape in North Carolina.
