MISSOURI VETERANS ENDEAVOR
Long-term supportive housing for veterans and their families experiencing homelessness.
Missouri Veterans Endeavor
Missouri Veterans Endeavor, commonly referred to as MOVE, is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving at-risk and homeless veterans and their families. Established to specifically address the needs of veterans experiencing homelessness in the Greater St. Louis area, MOVE was formerly known as U.S. VETS Missouri.
Mission
The primary mission of MOVE is to provide housing and support services that help veterans overcome barriers and achieve a stable future. The organization focuses on offering long-term supportive housing, clinical case management, and mental health support to enable successful transitions back into civilian life.
Services and Programs
MOVE operates a unique residential program that offers safe and affordable housing to veterans, along with their families. This supportive environment allows veterans to live among peers while receiving on-site services. The program includes:
- Long-term Supportive Housing: MOVE provides housing in a secure and sober environment, which is crucial for veterans seeking stability.
- Clinical Case Management: Each veteran is assigned a Social Worker who helps develop personalized Individualized Action Plans (IAPs) to address specific challenges and goals.
- Mental Health Support: The organization emphasizes increasing access to mental health care and developing coping strategies.
- Valor Harbor: A pioneering program offering barrier-free talk therapy to veterans, service members, and their families, focusing on mental health needs.
Operations
MOVE is distinctly independent of government funding, relying on support from local contributors, corporate, and private foundations. This independence allows the organization to tailor services based on specific veteran needs without bureaucratic constraints. Since its inception, MOVE has successfully housed over 250 veterans and connected more than 1,000 veterans with vital community resources, facilitating employment opportunities for over 175 veterans.
Diversity and Inclusion
MOVE is committed to being an anti-racist organization and recognizes the diverse demographics of veterans. The organization actively seeks to understand and cater to the cultural needs of each individual, ensuring inclusive support services.
Recognition
Missouri Veterans Endeavor has received a high rating from Charity Navigator, reflecting its effectiveness and transparency in serving the community.
Goals
MOVE aims to end veteran homelessness in the St. Louis area through its comprehensive strategies and services, empowering veterans to reintegrate into society successfully and contribute positively to their community.
