Extreme History Project

The Extreme History Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making history relevant and accessible to the public. It was co-founded by Marsha Fulton and Crystal Alegria in 2012 with the goal of enhancing the public's understanding of how history has shaped our present and promoting social change.

Mission

The organization's mission is to uncover and share the complex, often overlooked aspects of history, especially in Montana and the Western United States. It aims to generate a dialogue that reexamines historical events from multiple perspectives and to promote empathy and understanding among diverse communities.

The Extreme History Project engages in a variety of activities, including:

• Walking Tours: These tours explore the rich and diverse history of places like Bozeman's historic China Alley and the Gallagator Trail.
• Exhibits and Events: The organization hosts exhibits and events that delve into lesser-known historical narratives, such as the history of Bozeman's Red Light District.
• Podcasts: It produces "The Dirt on the Past," a podcast that explores the fascinating history of Montana and its residents.
• Book Club: The Extreme History Project hosts an online book club focused on Montana and Western history.
• Documentary Series: It is involved in projects like the documentary series "The Story of Us: The Women Who Shaped Montana," which highlights the contributions of women to Montana's history.

Goals

The organization seeks to eradicate political and social agendas from traditional historical narratives, providing a more balanced view of the past.
