The Florida Film Institute, Inc. (FFI) is a non-profit organization established in 1992, dedicated to providing educational opportunities in the field of media arts, particularly filmmaking, to students in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. With a focus on hands-on experience, the Institute aims to inspire and empower young filmmakers by engaging them in all aspects of film production.
Programs and Activities
FFI offers a variety of programs that equip students with vital skills in filmmaking. Key offerings include:

CINEMA After School Program: This program serves middle and high school students, providing a creative outlet and educational resources to support their interests in film production. Participants learn about script writing, cinematography, directing, and editing, among other skills necessary for filmmaking.

Summer Film Camp: This intensive six-week program allows students aged 13 to 18 to delve deeper into commercial motion picture production. Participants gain hands-on experience in areas such as lighting, sound recording, and acting, culminating in the creation of a short film to be showcased publicly.

Workshops and Mentorship: FFI conducts workshops focusing on diverse aspects of filmmaking, including acting, sound design, and marketing. These workshops are designed to increase self-esteem and equip students with decision-making skills applicable across various professions.
Impact and Achievements
Since its founding, the Florida Film Institute has mentored over 7,080 students, fostering both artistic and personal growth. The student films produced through the Institute have garnered numerous accolades, with a total of 197 awards from various film festivals. These films have been featured at 46 international, 73 national, and 41 regional festivals, including broadcasts on platforms such as HBO.
The organization focuses on equitable access to filmmaking education, offering scholarships for students in financial need and working in collaboration with local schools and community centers to broaden its reach.
