🌊✨ Public pools, while spaces of joy, have historically been targeted sites of discrimination for people of color, including Asian Americans. During WWII, many Japanese Americans were confined to internment camps, which deepened racial divides for years to come and impacted their access to public swimming spaces. This kind of discrimination helps to explain why people of color drown at such high rates in the United States. In celebration of AAIP Heritage Month, we honor these stories to inspire change and promote inclusivity.
