Practical Shepherding Inc.
Overview
Practical Shepherding Inc. is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting pastors, church planters, and those in ministry roles. The organization provides various services aimed at enhancing pastoral care, training, and personal growth.
Programs and Services
The Shepherd's House
One of the key ministries offered by Practical Shepherding is The Shepherd's House, a retreat for pastors and their spouses. This program offers free lodging for up to two nights, allowing pastors a place to rest and rejuvenate away from the demands of their ministry. The Shepherd's House locations are available across the U.S. and internationally. Guests are responsible for travel and childcare arrangements, as all guests must be at least 18 years old[2].
Women's Ministry
Practical Shepherding also supports women in ministry through its Women's Ministry. This includes Support Services, which provide one to two meetings for feedback, encouragement, and prayer regarding specific ministry challenges. Additionally, Mentoring Services are available, offering six to eight meetings focused on personal growth and spiritual development. For deeper, ongoing needs, Counseling Services offer long-term support[1].
Practically Trained Pastors Cohort
Another key initiative is the "Practically Trained Pastors" program, which provides comprehensive video resources covering various aspects of pastoral ministry. This program is structured into several parts, addressing topics such as the pastor's role, soul care, family dynamics, church revitalization, church planting, and self-awareness[5].
Thrive Campaign
Practical Shepherding is also engaged in the Thrive Campaign, a strategic initiative aimed at expanding its reach and services. This includes launching new ministry hubs in spiritually challenging regions, establishing rural ministry cohorts, and developing cohorts for training pastors in regions such as Pakistan and Latin America[3].
Support and Funding
The organization relies on financial donations and prayers to support its activities, particularly for maintaining The Shepherd's House initiative and expanding its outreach programs[2]. Donations help cover the costs associated with providing free lodging for pastors and their spouses.
Purpose and Mission
Practical Shepherding is committed to helping pastors thrive in their roles, recognizing the challenges and pressures of ministry. By offering training, support, and care, the organization aims to enhance the well-being and effectiveness of those in pastoral and church planting roles.
