In rural Bangladesh, access to safe sanitation isn’t just a health issue—it’s a business opportunity. iDE’s SanMarkS II initiative is proving that when rural local entrepreneurs are trained and supported, they create sustainable markets for latrines that improve livelihoods in their community. Working with over 2,400 rural sanitation entrepreneurs, iDE supported in boosting the sales of hygienic latrines while also ensuring affordability for low-income households. Many of these entrepreneurs, who previously lacked access to a steady income, are now skilled business owners meeting local demand with locally made products.
