Five hundred years of Anabaptism includes five hundred years of song and worship. Mennonite hymns are often sung a cappella, meaning there is no instrumental accompaniment. Song leaders use pitch pipes to start each hymn on key. This plaque from the collection of Martin Ressler showcases a variety of pitch pipes used for leading a cappella hymns. For over forty years, Ressler served as a song leader and music teacher in his church. He also directed the Christian Heralds Men's Chorus. The Ressler Music Library, part of the Mennonite Life Library, has over 3,000 catalogued volumes. We'll be celebrating Anabaptism's musical history tomorrow at a community hymn sing. We hope you'll join us! See event information here: https://buff.ly/8KEvWU3 (fb)

As part of celebrating the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism, Mennonite Life is hosting a limited-time exhibit, "They Went Out From Us": Zwingli and the Radical Reformation," showcasing three sixteenth-century books by Swiss reformer Ulrich Zwingli and his encounters with the budding Anabaptist movement. For a preview of what you'll see, check out the online exhibit at mennonitelife.org/learn. Then, stop by the Mennonite Life Library to see the three books—printed 500 years ago—in person. Archivist and Librarian Julia Wiker, exhibit curator, will be present during open hours to answer questions about the books and their ties to Anabaptist history. The exhibit is on view in the Mennonite Life Library until June 6. (fb)
