Our beautiful campus holds a special place in the hearts of Fort Hays State University alumni and friends. As FHSU continues to grow and adapt to an ever-changing educational landscape, the buildings we all know and love are changing, too. The newly released master plan shows how the university will meet these challenges by focusing on the Western Kansas philosophy of taking care of and improving what already exists. Over the next several years and decades, Fort Hays State will update existing structures while maintaining the style we all love. Beloved buildings will be revamped from the inside out and on-campus walkability will be improved. There’s so much to look forward to coming from this new plan, and we’re excited to see it spring to life over the next few years! Hollie Marquess recently received a significant honor as the first Dr. Leo Oliva Distinguished Professor of History, celebrating her commitment to students, innovative teaching, and mentorship. Hollie is a first-generation college student and FHSU alum who now mentors dozens of aspiring researchers inside FHSU’s Department of History. She also leads projects like the Victor E. History Podcast, giving students a platform to share their incredible work. Her dedication to providing an engaging and dynamic education and mentorship reflects the values that defined Dr. Leo Oliva’s career. The professorship recognizes the legacy of Dr. Oliva, a historian and FHSU emeritus whose career was defined by academic success and transformative instruction. Former student Dr. Glenn Walker and his wife, Barbara, funded the professorship as a tribute to the impact Dr. Oliva had on his life. Thanks to the Walkers’ generosity, Hollie plans on helping fund student opportunities to travel for research and to present at conferences. Hollie is delighted to carry forward Dr. Oliva’s legacy at FHSU through the professorship and is excited to use the role to further enrich student experiences. Join us in congratulating Hollie on this incredible honor! (fb)
