Located roughly 13 miles northeast of Huntsville, Alabama's largest city, this property features several caves and a sink, a unique geologic feature common in northern Alabama. Sinks form when acidic rainwater dissolves limestone, creating underground cavities that eventually allow water to drain directly into the subsurface instead of running off. The property supports several species of conservation concern, including the Allegheny woodrat, whose population is in decline due to habitat fragmentation, and the Alabama snow wreath, a rare plant in the region. The property is also home to an abundance of American smoketrees, a tree you won't find just anywhere in the South. This tree has disjunct populations throughout the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee, Georgia, and Northeastern Alabama.
