🐾📣 The Cat’s Out of the Bag… Yes, we do TNR. And here’s why we’re not stopping. We’ve been getting some heated comments lately: “TNR doesn’t work.” “Why return cats?” “You’re harming wildlife—just euthanize them.” Let’s get real. ⸻ 🧠 THE FACTS: 🐱 The U.S. outdoor cat population is estimated at 30 to 80 million. (Source: ASPCA, Alley Cat Allies) 🚫 That’s far more cats than shelters or rescues will ever be able to rehome. ✂️ TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) remains the only humane, scalable, and community-supported approach to: • Stop reproduction • Stabilize cat populations • Protect community health through rabies vaccinations 📉 One long-term study found that managed TNR colonies dropped by over 50%, while unmanaged ones grew. (Source: JAVMA, 2003) ⸻ 🦅 BUT WHAT ABOUT WILDLIFE? Yes—outdoor cats can impact native species. But here’s what most critics miss: ✅ TNR is the only strategy proven to reduce the number of outdoor cats over time. Killing or removing cats creates a vacuum effect, drawing in new, unsterilized cats. The cycle starts over—again and again. ✅ In many cases, the cats we’re fixing are: • Already part of established colonies • Being fed by caretakers • Not active hunters because they’re well-fed ✅ Targeted TNR + managed feeding reduces roaming and hunting behavior. (Source: Humane Society of the United States, UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program) 📍 In other words: if your concern is protecting wildlife, spaying and returning cats is the most effective thing you can support. ⸻ 🏥 SHELTERS ARE NOT THE PLACE FOR BARN OR FERAL CATS The University of Wisconsin Shelter Medicine program is clear: “Healthy feral cats should not be admitted to shelters unless there is a live outcome plan in place.” Why? • Feral cats don’t belong in cages. • They are often euthanized—not adopted. • And removing them just invites new cats to move in. ⸻ 🚫 What’s NOT a solution? ❌ Killing healthy cats for simply existing ❌ Overloading already-full shelters ❌ Ignoring the problem while criticizing those working to solve it ⸻ ✅ What IS a solution? ✔️ Spay and neuter ✔️ Vaccinate ✔️ Return to safe environments with fewer behaviors and no kittens We’re not here to argue. We’re here to do the work—trap in hand, facts in pocket, and compassion leading the way. (fb)

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Dottie & Sable Break Out of Daycare — And Pass Every Life Test With Flying Colors! ✏️🐾🎒🚪 BEFORE: Dottie and Sable lived in a home with no names, no visitors. The house was eventually condemned, and we were called in. With nowhere else to go, our trusted daycare partners stepped up, giving them a safe place to land while we searched for next steps. NOW: This week, they finally got their first chance to experience life in a real home — even if only a temporary foster. And they nailed it. 👧 Kid-tested? ✅ 🚽 No accidents in the house? ✅ 🐶 Dog-friendly? ✅ 🛰️⏱️ Come in when called? ✅ (Equipped with GPS collars and long lines — because safety matters.) They didn’t just pass the test. They made the honor roll. This is all to the amazing care from the team at Downtown Dogs Minneapolis. Only place I trust our pack! 🎓🌟 These two are a bonded pair, and they belong together. We know that can make adoption more complex — so we’re doing everything we can to make it easier. 💥 Adoption fees? Waived. 📚 Training? Already in the works. 🏡 Home? Still needed — whether foster, rescue, or adopter. We’re actively looking for a foster-based rescue partner to help continue their journey. But if you’re the right match and want to adopt them now — by all means, let’s talk. Their bags are packed, and their hearts are wide open. 📸 Stay tuned for their before-and-after transformation — from no names to now? These girls are glowing. Message us to meet them — or to help us write the next chapter of their story. Because every good graduate deserves a cap, gown… and a couch. 🛋️🎓 #DottieAndSable #BondedPair #HonorRollHound #AdoptDontShop #BeautifulHeartsRescue #RescueDoneRight #TwoHeartsOneHome #FosterNeeded #RescuePartnersWelcome #AdoptIfYoureReady Downtown Dogs, Dog Daycare and Boarding (fb)
