The Denver Indian Family Resource Center (DIFRC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting American Indian and Alaska Native families in the Denver metro area. Founded in 2000, DIFRC focuses on addressing the overrepresentation of these families within the child welfare system through culturally responsive services.

Mission

DIFRC's mission is to strengthen vulnerable American Indian and Alaska Native children and families by providing collaborative and culturally responsive services. Services and Programs

• Family Services and Community Programs: DIFRC offers comprehensive family services and community programs tailored for families who self-identify as American Indian and Alaska Native. • Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Advocacy: The organization provides advocacy under ICWA to support reunification efforts for families involved in the child welfare system. This is particularly crucial in ensuring cultural sensitivity and legal compliance in child welfare cases.

• Nurturing Parent Program: This program combines traditional Native American beliefs with the national Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum to support healthy family development aligned with AI/AN culture and values.

As of 2022, DIFRC has provided services to over 2,000 families and more than 3,000 children. The organization has achieved significant success in family reunification and preservation, with nearly 90% of families maintaining positive permanency outcomes. Additionally, DIFRC has contributed to reducing the overrepresentation of AI/AN children in foster care by 162% in its service area.
